• Significant competitive artistic swimming coaching experience; 5+ years preferred.

• Strong technical knowledge of artistic swimming fundamentals, choreography, routine construction, acrobatics, and athlete development.
• Current knowledge of World Aquatics and USA Artistic Swimming rules and scoring systems.
• Experience creating and reviewing coach cards and working with the current difficulty system.
• Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor a coaching staff.
• Ability to motivate athletes while maintaining a positive, disciplined, supportive, and athlete-centered training environment.
• USA Artistic Swimming Professional/Coaching Membership and required coaching certifications, or willingness to obtain required certifications.

Coach Nevada’s Best

The Desert Mermaids are Nevada’s only nationally ranked competitive artistic swimming team, and we’re looking for an experienced Assistant Coach to help lead our 12 & Under, Youth, and/or Junior competition teams. You’ll work directly under Head Coach Maya Plotnitskaya, who has trained under previous Coach Ludivine Stsepaniuk since 2021. She swam competitively for more than 10 years, including with our Mermaids, and was also a member of the Team USA Senior National Team. Ludi was Head Coach of the Mermaids for 10 years and is now an Admin Coach from abroad, while leading Australia’s Senior National Team to the LA 28 Olympic Games. 

This is a hands-on technical coaching role with real ownership: routine construction under the current World Aquatics/USA Artistic Swimming scoring system, Coach Card review, and daily athlete development at a program that competes at Regionals, the Cactus Classic, West Zone Championships, Junior Olympics, and U.S. Nationals. If you want to sharpen your craft at the national level, this is the club for you.

What We’re Looking For

• Coaching Experience: Proven track record coaching competitive age group athletes, specifically at the 12U and Youth/Junior levels.
• Technical Expertise: Strong mastery of artistic swimming fundamentals and elite-level technique.
• Rule Proficiency: Thorough understanding of the current scoring system, including the roles of DTC and STC.
• Certifications: DTC/STC Level 1 or 2, or able to complete within 90 days of start (course fees reimbursed by NDM).
• Membership: Current USA Artistic Swimming Professional Membership (CCP, SafeSport, Background Check) in place before the first practice.
• Safety: CPR/First Aid certification (NDM provides certification if needed).

What You’ll Do

• Age Group Leadership: Lead and develop athletes in the 12 & Under, Youth, and Junior categories in coordination with the Head Coach.
• Technique Instruction: Deliver high-level technical feedback on figures, transitions, and routine elements to national-level standards.
• Rule Implementation: Apply the latest World Aquatics/USA Artistic Swimming rules to routine construction, with a focus on the Hybrid Difficulty Catalog and Acrobatic codes.
• Technical Control: Review Coach Cards to ensure declared difficulty matches athlete performance and maximizes scoring potential.
• Communication: Coordinate with the Head Coach and staff on training goals; keep team families informed on practice sessions and athlete progress.
• Administrative Support (monthly-pay track): For candidates on the monthly contractor track, take on defined administrative responsibilities outside practice — such as meet entries, scheduling, and team communications — scoped with the Head Coach and board.

Compensation

Contractor pay starts at $20+/hour for coaching hours, based on experience. Experienced coaches who take on multiple teams and administrative responsibilities will be considered for steady monthly contractor pay starting at a minimum of $3,000/month, scaled to coaching experience and administrative scope.

Expect 20+ hours per week during the competitive season, with additional paid administrative hours available for qualified candidates.

This is an independent contractor position. It is not eligible for health benefits or visa sponsorship; candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.
