Chelsea Fan named Physical Therapist for USAAS National Team

by Kennedy Shriver, USA Artistic Swimming

USA Artistic Swimming is excited to announce Chelsea Fan as the national team’s new Physical Therapist. In this position, Fan will oversee the sports medicine program for the national team, including injury prevention programs, evaluations, management, daily treatment, rehabilitation, international event medical planning and educational programs including counseling for the athletes at all team practices and competitions. Fan will play a vital role in the long-term success and sustainability of the team.

Fan enters the position with an impressive resume. She obtained her bachelor’s in Physiological Science in 2014 from University of California, Los Angeles and went on to complete her doctoral degree at University of Southern California in Physical Therapy in 2019. Fan is also an Orthopedic Certified Specialist along with a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.

In past positions, Fan has predominantly worked in a private practice setting, most recently at Elite OrthoSport Physical Therapy with an array of athletes including Olympians and athletes competing in the NBA, NFL, MLB and MMA. USAAS has previously utilized EliteOrtho’s services before the creation of the full-time athletic trainer position, and the national team athletes have thoroughly enjoyed the care and expert guidance they received from Chelsea and her colleagues. In November of 2021, Fan traveled with the junior national team to the Junior Pan American Games in Cali, Columbia and made a lasting impression.

“I am so excited to be joining the team at such a pivotal point of the sport. I really enjoyed my time working with the athletes and coaches previously, so I am looking forward to being fully immersed in the role of being on the front lines managing their healthcare. It’s such an honor to be a part of their journey to the Olympics,” Fan said
