The artistic swimming community mourns the passing of Lorraine Fasullo, a lifelong champion, mentor, and leader whose contributions helped shape the sport across generations. As a former National Solo Champion, Lorraine’s love for synchronized swimming began as a competitor and evolved into a lifetime of service and leadership.

She founded the Newark YMCA Nereids in New Jersey—home to athletes like Ginny Jasontek, who would go on to make her own mark on the sport—and later helped launch Berkley Synchro after the Westfield YMCA program was discontinued, ensuring that swimmers in her community always had a place to continue training and competing.

Lorraine’s influence extended far beyond the pool deck. She served as a National Judge, Vice President of Officials, and Head of Zone Judges, roles through which she elevated officiating standards and mentored countless others. Known for her sharp eye, integrity, and deep understanding of the sport, she was instrumental in developing fair and consistent judging practices nationwide. Her dedication was recognized with the Lillian MacKeller Award in 1994, one of the highest honors in U.S. artistic swimming, and she remained an active supporter of the USA Artistic Swimming Foundation and a donor to the International Swimming Hall of Fame, reflecting her lifelong investment in the sport’s future.

Those who knew Lorraine remember her as tireless, outspoken, and endlessly passionate about artistic swimming’s growth. She was always encouraging new coaches to become judges and insisting that the sport thrived when more people gave back. Her guidance, enthusiasm, and commitment have left an indelible legacy—one that continues to inspire athletes, coaches, and officials across the country.
