TOKYO - The artistic swimming Olympic competition will begin this evening at the Tokyo Aquatic Center. After years of preparation, the USA duet of Anita Alvarez and Lindi Schroeder will take the pool to perform their free duet in the preliminary competition beginning at 7:30 p.m. local time (6:30 a.m. ET). Tuesday will host the technical competition at the same time. Of the 22 total pairs, the 12 duets with the highest combined total will advance to the free duet final competition on Wednesday. Alvarez and Schroder are accompanied by coaches Andrea Fuentes and Lara Teixeira in Tokyo and are working tirelessly to earn a bid to finals.
The pair has had several strong practices leading up to the games. They arrived in the village last week, and have been making use of the USA High Performance Center and venue practice pool to stay sharp and refine final details. Results will be posted on this page as they are finalized.
