COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The stage is set and the first-ever virtual World Series event will premiere this weekend at usaartisticswim.org and on FINA TV. The event will begin at 11 a.m. ET on Saturday, February 20th and Sunday, February 21st.
Saturday will feature the technical events and include duets, mixed duets, female solos, male solos and team routines. Sunday will follow much of the same pattern with free routines including duet, mixed duet, female solo, male solo, team, combo, highlight and gala. Commentary will be provided by Mixed Duet World Champions Christina Jones and Bill May and include interviews with participating athletes discussing the state of artistic swimming today and what preparation has looked like as training continues during the pandemic.
Team USA worked tirelessly to prepare routines for the event, with filming happening just a few weeks ago. Viewers will see Lindi Schroeder and Anita Alvarez perform both free and tech duets this weekend, building momentum for a hopeful qualification to the Tokyo Olympic games. This event was also another opportunity for the squad to perform and continue to refine their iconic “Robot” routine ahead of the postponed qualification tournament. The young team continues to grow every day and this event will be a valuable opportunity to gather feedback from judges and utilize it in training. Swimming solos for the stars and stripes are Alvarez and Nikki Dzurko. Bill May joined the team for a highlight performance and will also compete a solo. USA is coached by Andrea Fuentes, Anna Voloshyna and Lara Teixeira.
"We have successfully brought countries from all across the globe together in a production that will look and feel as though it is happening live. Creativity is one of the fundamental elements of our sport and in the midst of the pandemic we are showcasing that quality in a new and unique way. I hope that this event provides artistic swimming fans, and sports fans in general, with optimism. The days ahead are brighter than those behind and we are excited to see how our sport continues to grow and adapt despite obstacles," Adam Andrasko, CEO of USA Artistic Swimming, said.
