LEVEL UP: Kim Kohut Receives Judging Promotion

by Kennedy Shriver, USA Artistic Swimming

USA Artistic Swimming is proud to announce the promotion of Kim Kohut to an AQUA A Judge. This now qualifies her to judge in some of the most prestigious international competitions such as the World Championships and the Olympics, in this high-level competitive sport.

Becoming an AQUA A Judge did not occur overnight. Kohut has been behind the judging table since 2002 when she became a Level 1 Judge. She slowly started climbing the ladder from there and became a National Figure judge in 2008, National Judge in 2011, UANA/PAN AM Judge in 2015, and then FINA/AQUA Judge in 2017.

Kohut says, "It is an absolute honor and privilege to be promoted by World Aquatics for this role.  I will continue to be a leader in Artistic Swimming in order to promote integrity, fairness, and inclusion for all athletes around the world. I am truly grateful for all the people that supported and mentored me (and continue to do so) during this journey."

On this journey, Kohut has had the honor of judging different competitions all over the world. She has judged at the 2017 America Open/World Series Leg (Long Island, New York, USA), 2018 Primorje Cup (Rijeka,Croatia), 2018 Junior Worlds Practice Judge (Budapest, Hungary), 2019 FINA World Series (Greensboro, NC, USA), 2019 Hungarian Open (Budapest, Hungary), 2021 FINA World Series (1st virtual meet in FINA-USA), 2022 FINA World Series (CAN/USA-virtual), and the 2022 FINA Youth World Championships (Charlotte, NC, USA)

Kohut talks about her time as an international judge and the memories made. “I do not have one favorite memory of my time as an international judge, but I do enjoy traveling and getting to experience other cultures while making lifelong friendships across the world.  I am confident there will be plenty of ‘KimKo’ travel stories in my future because my travels usually have some sort of humorous incident.”

Congratulations Kim, and USAAS looks forward to seeing what more you accomplish in the sport.
