The FINA Artistic Swimming World Series made its first stop virtually in a production hosted jointly by USA and Canada this weekend. The events aired on FINA’s YouTube channel and featured two days of competition. You can view replays of the events HERE

USA’s senior national team initially planned to participate in eight of the eleven categories but unfortunately had to settle for two as short-term injuries and additional challenges limited the ability to compete. Fans saw USA representation in the free duet portion of the competition by swimmers Megumi Field and Natalia Vega and as well as the highlight category. Both of these routines were new choreographies for the squad and served as their international debuts.

Megumi and Natalia had a fantastic first showing as a pair in their electronic free duet. In their first ever competition swimming duet together, they secured a gold medal. With a score of 84.9000, they topped the standings and proved they will be a pair to watch on the international scene this year. The category included routines from Korea, Bulgaria, Australia, Denmark and Finland.

Elisa Brunel, Claudia Coletti, Ivy Davis, Yujin Chang, Dani Ramirez, Natalia Vega, Emily Ding, Megumi Field, Keana Hunter and Atira O’Neil represented the Stars and Stripes in the highlight category. The team was forced to adapt their routine quickly in a period where many of their teammates were either just returning from injury or still sidelined. In the end, their ‘cave people’ highlight routine prevailed, adding a second gold medal to USA’s total for the event.
