USAAS Honors Kay Mueller's Legacy with a Commemorative Patch

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Kay Mueller’s legacy is continuing to grow within the USA Artistic Swimming Community. Kay’s family has chosen USAAS as a recipient of a generous monetary gift that will help strengthen the organization and continue to grow the sport she dedicated much of her life to. 

Kay passed away in June from PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy) and the outpouring of support that came after the announcement made it apparent she was loved by many. After dedicating her life to artistic swimming as an athlete, coach and judge, she left a mark on the sport, particularly in the South Zone, and she continues to be missed by her friends and family. Given Kay’s deep passion for artistic swimming, her family made the decision to donate a generous gift to the USA Artistic Swimming Foundation. Her husband, Jerry, and brother, Paul, helped to coordinate the contribution as a way to continue her legacy. In her honor, the national team will wear a commemorative patch featuring Kay’s name to remind them of the passionate community behind them and the generosity that continues to help them compete at the highest level. The patch will be revealed on January 27th. That is an important date as it is the day prior to the team performing their FINA Artistic Swimming World Series Virtual Event routine. The team will proudly don the addition at all 2021 competitions.

“Kay was always very creative and synchro gave her a way to combine her artistic side with her athletic swimming abilities. As a judge, Kay could appreciate the beauty of the sport and its techniques as well as how quickly the sport continued to grow and advance. She would often share with us new routines that teams were doing and talk about how amazing the new stunts and artistic approaches were, “ her brother, Paul Mueller, said. “Kay's gift is a way for her love of the sport to carry on by supporting its growth. Also, with the Olympics being delayed due to the pandemic, we are happy we can help support the national team and offset some of their added expenses. We are looking forward to watching the demonstration of their talents and hard work as they compete.”
